World notes and reference
We recommend you read the first chapter before you reveal the story bible below.
Elizabeth is an 8-year-old girl with an active imagination and a love of play. She's a huge fan of pulp sci-fi, having been introduced to Flash Gordon by her father via the 1980 film, and endless repeats of the 1936 serials on VHS, which inspired her alter ego: Captain Elaraith of the Ninth Dimension.
She has an older brother, the 10-year-old Brandon, who is often a reluctant participant in her adventures playing General Braeden, and a dog, Arthur, or unwittingly plays the part of the evil Emperor Artuhr, who more often than not just enjoys the attention.
It's the first week of summer, and she's already deep in her imagination. Where will her next adventure take her?
Chapter 1
Pinned down
So it has come to this.
What was meant to be a routine flyover mission to gather intel on Emperor Artuhr's forces turned into a disaster. They detected me and landed a laser blast hit on my beloved Stralen cruiser, causing me to crash on the planet's surface.
My mission was to avoid capture and survive long enough to be rescued.
I gathered what I could from the wreckage, launched a rescue beacon, and started making it on foot through the badland marshes, avoiding the native Rodents of Unusual Size and keeping one step ahead of the warband dispatched to capture me.
"Are you going to be much longer?"
I laid traps and set decoys, but even an accomplished captain of the Ninth Dimension such as I could only hold out so long.
Artuhr's second-in-command, General Braeden, was personally leading the hunt. He's had a personal grudge against me since the Vinterra mission, and would love nothing more than to chain me up in a cell personally.
"Dinner is getting cold"
The showdown was about as epic as you could imagine. The bodies of six troops lay unconscious in my wake, but for every one I knocked out, three more appeared, and eventually I was overpowered and pinned to the ground.
"Brandon, get off your sister and come wash up for dinner."
"But MOM!"
"No buts. This game has gone on long enough. And tidy up your toys."
I was saved, and not a moment too soon. Upon my return to HQ, I received a hero's welcome, was treated to a feast of gammon, eggs and chips, with jelly and ice cream for afters, forced to have a much-needed bath, and retired to my chambers for some well-deserved sleep.
With 6 more weeks off school, where will Captain Elaraith adventure next?
