Notice-and-Takedown Policy
Last updated:
Unknown Tales hosts content written by its users. We take complaints about copyright infringement and illegal content seriously. This policy explains how to submit a complaint, what information we need, and what we will do once we receive it.
This policy reflects our obligations under the E-Commerce Regulations 2002 and the Online Safety Act 2024.
1. Copyright complaints
If you believe that content published on Unknown Tales infringes your copyright, please send a notice to daniel@unknowntales.net with the subject line “Copyright Notice” and include all of the following:
- Your identity. Your full name, postal address, telephone number, and email address. If you are acting on behalf of a rights holder, state your authority to do so.
- The work you own. A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed, or — if multiple works are covered by a single notice — a representative list.
- The infringing content. The URL(s) of the specific chapter(s) or path(s) on Unknown Tales that you claim infringe your work.
- A statement of good faith. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, their agent, or the law.
- A statement of accuracy. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on their behalf.
- Your signature. Your physical or electronic signature.
2. Illegal content complaints
If you believe that content on Unknown Tales is unlawful — for example because it constitutes harassment, incitement, or another criminal offence — please email daniel@unknowntales.net with the subject line “Illegal Content Report” and include:
- The URL(s) of the specific content you are reporting.
- A description of why you believe the content is unlawful, including the relevant law or offence if known.
- Your name and contact details (we may need to follow up).
You do not need to identify yourself if you prefer to report anonymously, but we may have limited ability to follow up with you if we do.
3. What happens after we receive a notice
On receiving a valid notice we will:
- Acknowledge receipt within 5 working days.
- Review the notice and, if we conclude the content is infringing or unlawful, remove or disable access to it promptly.
- Notify the author that their content has been removed and the reason why, unless doing so would tip off a person about an ongoing law-enforcement investigation or create a risk of harm.
We may decline to act on a notice that is materially incomplete, that we conclude in good faith is based on a mistaken claim, or where removal would itself be unlawful (for example, where content is clearly lawful).
4. Counter-notice
If your content has been removed in response to a copyright notice and you believe that removal was a mistake — for example because the content is your original work or falls within a permitted use — you may submit a counter-notice to daniel@unknowntales.net with the subject line “Counter-Notice”. Please include:
- Your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
- Identification of the content that was removed and its URL before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the content was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
We will forward your counter-notice to the original complainant. If they do not notify us of legal proceedings within 10 working days, we may restore the content.
5. Repeat infringers
We will suspend or terminate accounts where we receive multiple substantiated copyright or illegal-content complaints about the same user.
6. Misuse of this process
Submitting a notice you know to be materially false may expose you to liability. We reserve the right to share details of abusive notices with the persons targeted and with law-enforcement agencies where appropriate.
7. Contact
All notices should be sent to daniel@unknowntales.net. For urgent matters involving an immediate risk of harm, please say so clearly in the subject line.
