Cookie Policy

This policy explains what cookies are, which ones Unknown Tales uses, and why.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves to your browser when you visit. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, remember your preferences, or collect information about how you use a site.
The cookies we use
We use a single cookie on Unknown Tales:
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
_chronicle_session |
Keeps you logged in while you browse the site | Deleted when you close your browser or sign out | Strictly necessary |
We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party cookies. Unknown Tales does use first-party, server-side analytics, but it does not set a separate analytics cookie or other analytics identifier in your browser. This analytics may include coarse country-level geolocation derived on the server from your IP address, without storing a dedicated analytics cookie on your device.
Separately, supported writing forms use your browser's local storage to save an unsent draft on your device. This is not a cookie. The saved draft can be restored when you return to that writing page, and drafts older than 24 hours are removed when the form is opened again.
Do we need your consent?
No. Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly necessary cookies — those required to provide a service you have explicitly requested — do not require your consent. The session cookie falls into this category.
Because we use no other cookies, we have no cookie banner for analytics cookies.
How to control cookies
You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. If you block the session cookie, you will not be able to sign in to Unknown Tales. Most browsers provide guidance on managing cookies in their help documentation.
The Unknown Tales Community at discuss.unknowntales.net is a
separate application and sets its own cookies on that domain.
